Včasih so pravili, da je bezeg tako zdravilen, da ozdravi vse bolezni. Prav ves je uporaben: korenine, lubje, cvetje, jagode. Ravno zaradi svoje zdravilnosti, naj bi včasih poleg vsake kmetije na Gorenjskem rasel bezgov grm.

It is believed that the elderberry is so potent it can cure any disease. The whole plant can be used: the roots, bark, flowers and berries. They say that due to its medicinal properties every farm in Upper Carniola once had an elderberry bush. All around Upper Carniola the elderly know an effective home remedy made of ripened elder berries. The remedy was once used to treat colds and, supposedly, even lung diseases. I first stumbled upon this potion in the Selca Valley where my friend’s grandmother made a very special tea they called terjak. I was delightfully impressed by both its taste and its smell. If I drank it more often I would probably also be impressed by its effect.

 Na Gorenjskem stari ljudje poznajo učinkovito domače zdravilo iz zrelih bezgovih jagod, ki so ga včasih uporabljali pri  prehladnih obolenjih menda pa tudi  za zdravljenje pljučnih bolezni.  Sama sem v stik z njim prišla v Selški dolini, ker mi je  prijateljeva babica skuhala prav poseben čaj, ki so mu dali  ime terjak. Nad okusom in vonjem  sem bila prijetno presenečena.  Če bi ga redno uživala, bi bila mogoče presenečena tudi nad njegovim učinkom.

Old people in Upper Carniola know a very effective home-made medicine out of ripe elderberries. This medicine was used for curing lung diseases, especially colds. It is called terjak. First time I tried it, it was a very special tee. Terjak tee, that grandma from Selška dolina made. I was pleasantly surprised. Its smell, its taste… So nice. If I would drink it regularly, I might be surprised even by its effect.

 Za pripravo terjaka potrebujemo:

·         Zrele bezgove jagode

·         Vodo

·         Sladkor

Bezgovim jagodam dodate malo vode in kuhate približno 5-10 minut, da jagode počijo. Nato jih zmeljete v multipraktiku ali s paličnim mešalnikom, lahko pa jih lahko tudi spasirate. Dodate sladkor in kuhate približno dva dni. Sladkorja dodate toliko, kot je teža kuhanih bezgovih jagod. Nato nalijete terjak v segrete kozarčke.

Terjak je praviloma gost, kot zelo gosta marmelada, tako da se ga z žlico reže. Uporablja se ga tako, da se ga da v vročo (ne vrelo) vodo in spije.
